about us

This is a project of three members of the course "advanced integrated skills" - an english language seminar at the University of Hamburg.
Together we will try to analyze the perception and position of women in football, focussing on the possibilities of women in professional football settings, esp. in comparison to male football. Another focus lies on women as fans and visitors of football matches and members of supportes clubs or so called "Ultras" groups.

some questions of concern for us are:
  • Why is only men's football considered as “real” sports?
  • Why is there hardly any interest in women's football (in compairison) – neither by men nor women?
  • Is the only way female athletes can gain widespread “positive”attention by emphasizing their femininity?
  • Is there a need for a women's quota? What change would it bring?
  • How are women perceived and treated among the fan scene (especially the ultra-scene)?
  • Why is sexism in this field almost completely accepted (as opposed to racism, homophobia)?
  • (Do women play (physically) on an inferior level? If so, how does it affect the perception?)
  • How does the treatment of this topic vary from Germany to England and the USA?
  • How has female football changed throughout history?
